MONOMYTH 1K
MONOMYTH 1K is inspired by Joseph Campbell’s book, ‘The Hero with a Thousand Faces’. Alistair's love of film, novels and narrative albums are behind his desire to bring a storyline into improvised music. The album’s seven tracks are presented in three acts, typical of narrative arcs. The protagonist’s emotions are conveyed through Alistair’s trumpet playing, while the band represent events in the story. Listeners are free to interpret whether the album ends positively or negatively.
MONOMYTH 1K is first and foremost an exploration of space. Even at its high points, the music never becomes overcrowded. The Piano playing is mainly chordal and based in the mid-register, while the Bass and Clarinet swap between the lower and upper registers.
The music is brought to life by some of the most exciting musicians on the UK jazz scene,
Flo Moore, Eddie Lee, Tom Smith and Oren McLoughlin.
